I recently decided it was time to update the living room/dining room combination in my home but was at a loss for how to approach the project. I had heard so many wonderful things over the years about Gables New York and went to their beautiful gallery for direction and advice. What a warm and professional staff!
Jody and Linda helped me choose a lovely fabric to reupholster my two sofas with a fabulous coordinating fabric for the pillows. Jody selected beautiful blinds for my windows along with a gorgeous fabric for the cornices and dining room chairs to be reupholstered! Jim came to my home and meticulously measured and installed window treatments and offered suggestions for lamps and lighting fixtures. Jody even helped me choose my carpet and selected the perfect color paint to tie the entire room together. Susan kept me calm throughout the process when I was feeling overwhelmed and kept me informed on the progress of my order along the way. What an impressive team!
As I sit here now on my completely rebuilt and reupholstered sofa and look around this custom room, it's hard to believe that this is my home. I could not be more pleased with the quality of the work, and I can't say enough about this positive experience. Horrible experience. I did research online to see shades that were compatible with Apple home kit and hunter Douglas shades came up, I then saw the closest store around and decided to contact them via text message and noticed it was difficult communicating with Jody through text message, so I physically went to the store with my wife and here's how my experience goes:
1. When we attempted to walk into the store the door was locked and we had to ring a bell to get buzzed in as if this merchant stores gold and money in it.
2. As soon as we got buzzed, it seemed like they were annoyed at our mere presence. "how can I help you" the lady asks; "we wanted to get some shades for our house and wanted to see how this works and what's compatible with Apple homekit" I said to the lady. "well what is it your looking for" she said most rudely and continues "how don't you know what you want" i then said to her I don't know how this works and wanted to get started so if you can show me your product and I can then choose and order.
3. We chose some shades and she took our order and said Jody will call you with details on the cost by the end of the night because jodys in a meeting right now. It's been 72 hours and we never received a call.

Follow up to last review: Start to finish this has once again been the most positive and easy experience one could have! Throughout the entire process, I can honestly say that there was not a single glitch. We were updated every step of the way which we so appreciated. Jodi and her husband Jim are the ultimate business owners. We purchased Hunter Douglas Duolite shades for our son's new apartment. They are stunningly gorgeous and fit perfectly. Jodi was so helpful in choosing the exact style and color. She has excellent taste. And Jim's installation was so exact. In my mind, there is no other place for window treatments. The selection is so expansive and the showroom is beautiful. I must also mention the staff. They are wonderful as well.
It's no surprise that Gables receives such rave reviews across the board and has been in business for so long. They are the best and I enthusiastically recommend this business! Jody and her husband Jim are the quintessential business owners. The showroom on New Dorp Lane is beautiful, with a countless selection of products to choose from and everything is super organized. Very easy to find the perfect window treatment. Plus, they show up when they say (always on time) and are extremely pro-active in keeping you informed every step of the way. I must also mention the staff at Gables too. They are so friendly and knowledgeable.
When Jody came to do the first measurement, she brought tons of samples and helped pick the perfect shade combo. She was so patient. I never felt rushed for a second and her input was invaluable. She even gave us some decorating ideas. She really knows her stuff!
When I received the written estimate (exactly when Jody said she would have it) it was laid out with several product choices and price points. They weren't just trying to sell you the most expensive product. I also appreciated how honest they were in giving me a real time estimate for how long the shades might take to come in, which I found to be so reasonable, considering that we've been in a pandemic for over 18 months.

We are thankful that we chose Gables New York for our window treatments. They are professional, courteous, and extremely reliable. Jody spent a lot of time with us, and offered her tasteful decorative advice and ideas, which was so helpful in our decision making process. Everything went smoothly, from beginning to end. Jim installed them perfectly and helped to insure that our moldings were sufficient to mount the blinds. We love our blinds and have now had them for 3 years. I wrote a positive review at that time; however, I would like to add to my previous comments. For some reason, one of the blinds failed to stay up. When I contacted Gables, they offered to make the necessary repair (at no charge, since the blinds have a lifetime guarantee), even though it is so close to Christmas vacation. Jody even offered to provide a temporary blind in case they were not able to make the repair before Christmas. As promised, Jim was able to repair the blind on the same day I brought it in and now it is back in place. Thank you, Jody and Jim. We appreciate your high level of customer service and reliability!

My experience was great. I had difficulty deciding which window treatments would be best to use in the kitchen and Jodi was very honest in telling me what would and would not work for the space. Most people would have said, yes great whatever, and then given me something I would have regretted later. She really listened to my concerns and I found the right treatment for the space which looks great. They are extremely efficient, everything was right on schedule, and most important, the experience was stress free. You can go to this business with the utmost confidence that they will do a professional job for you and you will love the result.

This review is a very complex one due to the fact that it's not only about Gables but Hunter Douglas as well. My wife and I had our house renovated which included new windows. We looked for a company to design our windows in an elegant and functional manner. After looking and sorting through companies we chose Gables of New York. We dealt with Jody Hall primarily for all work that would be done in our house. Her husband Jim Hall would only measure and install the products we choose. They both came to the house measured the windows and we selected Top Down, Bottom Up blinds and curtains to dress the windows with. After sometime the blinds were ready and we scheduled to have them installed, the installation date came and the blinds were going in, that's when the problems began. First the wrong color blinds were ordered and there were 2 blinds not measured correctly, one in the living room and the other in my daughters room. A short time after that our very expensive Hunter Douglas blinds began to fail, they did not hold up level when utilizing the bottom up feature, 4 of them dropped and never held up tight in other words defeating the point of having a sheer/blackout combo blind. This problem happened in 4 rooms, so we contacted Jody and informed her of the issue, Jim came took pictures documented the issue and sent it into Hunter Douglas for replacement. Now while we are waiting for those to come in the blinds that were ordered that were the correct color came in and were installed, within 3 weeks those failed as well. Both Jody and Jim were taken back by this because they stated this never happened before. Jim inspected the blinds to see what was going on and I'm sure as anyone would to affirm no tampering was done with them. After confirming that the blinds themselves were the problem he once again took pictures and documented it for replacement. This issue happened 6 times in multiple rooms, we constantly contacted Jody to find out what was going on each time because mind you we had to what 5-7 weeks at a time for a replacement. We finally got fed up with getting no where with Jody and the lack of costumer service from Gables and contacted Hunter Douglas ourselves. Gables has a representative from Hunter Douglas which we wanted to speak with to find out what's going on with our replacement and why is there so many issue with these blinds. Jody did not allow us to speak with representative for some reason and we got no where with that. A big "investigation" was conducted by Hunter into the issue in which we as the customer had to constantly follow up with the order and progress instead of the company Gables in whom we ordered them from. Hunter themselves blamed the issue on a part that was sourced out to another company that failed. Now why is Gables customer service an issue other then what was stated, every time we texted Jody which was her preferred method of communication there was always an issue, sick child, she didn't feel good, traveling back from Manhattan, I'll look it up and get back to you (which she never got back to us) my wife would have to follow up then next day after not hearing from her just too many excuses. We have all this saved on text messages as well, not one time did Jody ever say or offer help in trying to get these issues resolved for us, the only statement she would offer is you have a life time warranty. The customer service is just not there with this company and the fight for your customer definitely not there. We spent a lot of money and we paid on time and in full but didn't get what we paid for, this should have been a smooth process but for a customer to fight for the product bought and not the authorized dealer is horrible and unprofessional. With our experience with Gables we do not recommend them. For anyone wishing to know more we can provide text messages and photos which we would gladly provide you with it.

Christopher, on behalf of Jody and Gables, I'm truly sorry we weren't able to meet your expectations. I can honestly say I feel like we went above and beyond to try to fix the issues with your shades, and even replaced your Applause shades with Duettes (a much higher-end, more expensive product) at no charge. As a long-time Hunter Douglas dealer, we stand by our products and were as shocked as you were to find that the original shades were not up to our standard of quality.

This store has a lotto choose from, but can be overwhelming. There are swatches of materials all throughout, with limited curtains and blinds on display. There was also one worker when we went, so no one else could help until she finished with her previous customer. The windows attract you in, but there isn't too much on display inside. A lot to look through if you have the time, otherwise a lot of books and a lot of questions.

Making a decisions in my new home was very overwhelming. I started by needing some help with window treatments and then worked with Jody to help me make decisions on how to decorate different rooms in my house - she helped me figure out to use items I already had for best placement balanced with suggestions where new elements were needed. Their service is very personalized and always ready to help.
